For 4 years my Navy Reserve unit was based in Gaeta, Italy, a bit south or Rome. Oftentimes at the end of my duty I would take a few days leave before heading home and explore Rome. Here, the Colosseum in Rome is one of the most fascinating structures in the world. Officially called the Flavian Amphitheatre, it was built around 70-80 AD, making it your typical fixer-upper at 1946 years old.
